Amelia (Emmie) Baker was born in Launceston in 1872, the sixth of seven children of Edward Frederick Baker (c.1832-1912), a carpenter, and his wife Marianne (or Mary Annie) Lyle (c.1832-1904). On 15 Nov 1898 Emmie married William Oscar Curtis (1874-1951), the eldest son of John Rowe Curtis, Lefroy. William, the chief clerk of the Locomotive Department, was presented with a wedding gift of a purse of sovereigns and a travelling bag engraved with his name. The marriage took place at the residence of the bride's parents in Garfield Street by the Rev J G Wright. Emmie and William's five children were all born in Launceston: Jack (1899), Trevor (1902), William (1905), Thomas (1907) and Winifred (1911). Emmie's sister Margaret (Maggie) Baker and her future husband William Curtis are also pictured in the Family Album. Amelia died on 16 Jan 1937.
