Philip Meyer Windeatt was the son of William Windeatt (c.1824-1896), the Launceston postmaster, and his wife Emma Watlin (1832-1900). He was born on 26 Jan 1872 at the family home in 'Victoria Terrace', Launceston. On 1 May 1888 Philip was appointed to the position of fourth clerk at the Launceston Customs House. On 10 Apr 1901 he married Ada Winifred Victoria Bantick in the Anglican Church at Pontville, Tasmania. The couple moved to Mafeteng, Basutoland (now Lesotho), southern Africa. Their first two children were born there: Marjory on 18 Sep 1903 and William on 6 Feb 1905. Ada died at Bulawayo, Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), in 1912, and Philip died aged 71 at Figtree, Southern Rhodesia, on 1 Apr 1943. See The Examiner 17 Jun 2006, p.37.
