John Wilson was an identical twin, born on 2 Apr 1868 in Crosthwaite, near Kendal, Westmorland, England. His twin brother William also appears in the album. They were sons of Henry (1814-1869) and Agnes Wilson (1833-1904). Henry was the miller and malster of Crosthwaite Mill. There were seven children in the family: five boys and two girls.
The twins came to Victoria and then Tasmania in 1890. Other members of the family also settled in the state. John was a carpenter, first in Invermay and later on the West Coast of Tasmania and finally at 46 Upton Street, West Launceston. John married Isabella Lindsay Pike (1874-1967) on 1 Jan 1900. The couple had one daughter, Agnes Isobel, born on 11 Oct 1900 in Zeehan.
John Wilson died at his residence in Upton St on 7 Aug 1941.
The twins both had a photo in the Launceston Family Album and one Exhibition passport has survived. This may have been used by both brothers as the initial is unclear.
(This photograph was formerly identified as being Dr John Thomas Wilson (1868-1906).)
