George Wallace was born in Launceston on 7 Apr 1877, the sixth child of Alex Wallace, teacher of music, and his wife Lavinia Butchart. He attended the Launceston High School. George became a commercial traveller around Victoria and married Caroline Boughton in Brighton, Victoria, in 1936. He died there in 1954. See The Examiner 15 Jul 2006, p. 40.
