Alexander Wallace, born on 6 Apr 1874, was the second son of Alex Wallace and his wife Lavinia Butchart. He was born at 1 Station Place, Carlton, Victoria. His father described himself as a mechanical engineer at that time, but he was later to become a music teacher and bandmaster. It is likely he is the A Wallace who played cornet in the Exhibition Orchestra. The family moved to Launceston in 1875. Alexander and his brothers attended the Launceston High School in Frederick Street. He died in Brighton, Victoria, in 1946. See The Examiner 15 Jul 2006, p. 40.
