Charles Augustus Walker was born on 18 Jun 1838 and christened on 25 Sep 1838 at Christ Church, Longford. He was a son of Charles John Walker (1807-1870), police clerk, and his wife Harriett Cole or Kent. Charles J Walker was a resident of Tasmania for 42 years, but moved to 'Blair Gowrie', South Yarra, Victoria. He died just 13 days after his son Charles A Walker married Catherine Turner at St John's Church, Launceston, on 5 Feb 1870. Catherine was the only daughter of W Turner, a tanner. Their six children were born between 1871 and 1880, the last three at 'Rostella' on the East Tamar.
The family moved to Welman Street, where they were living at the time of the Tasmanian Exhibition. Charles' wife Catherine and two eldest children, Ketha and William, also are pictured in the Family Album. Both Charles, a bass, and Catherine, a soprano, sang in the Exhibition Choir. Charles died aged 69 on 1 Apr 1907 in Geelong, Victoria.
