William Lacey Stokes was born in Launceston on 3 Apr 1858 to William Stokes and his wife Eliza Ann Lacey (1834-1873). He was the second of nine children. He married Caroline Ling on 19 May 1880 in Launceston. Their seven children were born in Launceston but Ernest, Eliza and Louisa did not survive. Willam L Stokes was on the General Committee of the Tasmanian Exhibition of 1891-92 and also sang in the bass section of the Choir. He was the manager of the Anglo-Australian Guano Co. (fertilizers). The family moved to Western Australia between 1899 and 1901. By 1925 Willam was a patient at 'The Sanitorium', Wooroloo, Western Australia. He died at Northam in 1927. His wife, father, stepmother and two sisters (Ada Biggs and Martha Stokes) are also pictured in the Family Album.
