Campbell Stephenson was born on 6 Apr 1879 at Campbell Town, the ninth of eleven children born to the Wesleyan Minister Rev. Francis Ewens Stephenson (1829-1885) and his wife Louisa Ann Hobday (1838-1922). Campbell was a student at the Launceston High School from 1889. He married Marion Hardman, daughter of Thomas Hardman of Scottsdale, on 29 Oct 1906 at the Coffee Palace in Launceston.
Campbell became a grazier on King Island. Their first child Kathleen was born at Nurse Gee's Hospital, 55 Tamar Street, Launceston, on 18 Feb 1909. Aileen was born at Currie, King Island, on 21 May 1913. In 1914 Campbell was a grazier at Bungaree, Victoria, then moved back to Tasmania where their third daughter Jean was born at Ulverstone on 16 Oct 1916. By 1930 they had moved to New South Wales. Campbell died at Manly in 1953 and Marion died the following year.
