Gertrude Marion (Gerty) Steer was born in Launceston on 26 Dec 1876, the seventh child of James Steer (1841-1911) and his wife Elizabeth Fanny Gould (1845-1907). She may be the Miss Steer who sang soprano in the Exhibition Choir. Gertrude married Arthur Percy Petts Jones at Launceston on 14 Mar 1900. He was listed as a miner at Mount Read in the 1903 Electoral Roll. Their two daughters were born in Launceston, Myla Gertrude on 27 May 1903 and Olga Petts on 1 Oct 1916.
