Fredrick Stanley (Fred) Steer was born in Launceston on 28 Nov 1875, the sixth child of James Steer (1841-1911) and his wife Elizabeth Fanny Gould (1845-1907). An insurance agent, in 1903 Fred was living with his parents at 20 Hill Street, West Launceston. He later moved to the mainland of Australia. See The Examiner 22 Apr 2006, p.30.
