This is possibly Herbert Charles Spotswood born in 1863 to Frederick Augustus Spotswood (1830-1872) and his wife Elizabeth Ann Guy (1830-1905). His brothers were: Frederick, born 1857; Arthur, 1859; and Henry, 1867. Herbert married Lucy Farrell (or Fenell) on 25 Feb 1895 in Launceston. They had two daughters. Faith Gordon, who was born on 2 June 1901, married Denholm Henty. Dorothy Lucy, born on 10 May 1905, married Clive Loane.
Herbert was a general mining and commission agent at the Land Mart in Brisbane Street, Launceston. He was working as a draper in Lefroy in 1903, and was reported to have found a gold nugget there in Feb 1905. He was secretary and performer with the Launceston Volunteer Rifle Dramatic Club and Minstrel and Glee Club. In 1880 he performed in 'HMS Pinafore' presented by Pollard's Liliputian Opera Company. He died on 9 Nov 1946 at Devonport and was buried with his wife at the Carr Villa Cemetery, Launceston, in Section C11 No. 353. Lucy had died aged 74 on 17 Jul 1939.
