Annie Coverdale Sorell was born at Deloraine on 22 May 1875, the ninth of eleven children of surveyor Hugh Percy Sorell (1831-1909) and his wife Dora Forbes Coverdale (1839-1932). On 8 Jan 1908 at St David's Cathedral, Hobart, Annie married Leopold Thomas Broinowski, a journalist with The Mercury newspaper. They had one daughter Anne Elizabeth in Sep 1908 who became an occupational therapist. Their son Ronald Leopold, who was born in Jan 1912, became a journalist. Leopold, an associate editor, died on 26 Sep 1937 after 35 years with The Mercury. He had edited Tasmania's War Record, 1914-1918. Annie died at her residence 64 Grosvenor Street, Sandy Bay, on 28 May 1962.
