Mrs Alice Jane Simpson was born on 7 Oct 1863 at Emu Bay, Tasmania, the eldest of four children of Nicholas Simmons (1828-1909), Government Surveyor, from Wilton, Canada and his wife Janet Oliver Wallace (1834-1882) from Glasgow, Scotland. Nicholas came from Canada in the 1850s, was at the Eureka Stockade and worked on the telegraph line between Launceston and Hobart. Nicholas and Janet married in Launceston in Sep 1861.
Alice married John Simpson, miner and investor, in Cimitiere Street, Launceston on 28 May 1884. They had three daughters: Olive Ruby, 1885-1934; Myrtle Mary Magnolia, 1887-1888 and Beulah Alice, 1889-1946. John, Ruby and Beulah and Alice's sister Janet Simmons are also in the Family Album.
