Alice Florence Scott, born at Old McHor, Aberdeen, Scotland, on 31 Dec 1855, was the eleventh of twelve children of Captain Samuel Tulloch (1815-1904) and his wife Sarah Ann Ford (1821-1880). Alice married Robert Steele Scott in Launceston on 8 Oct 1878. They lived in Victoria in their early years of marriage, but returned to Tasmania by 1883 where Beatrice was born and died. They moved to the property 'Dunedin' at St Leonards, which had been purchased by Alice's father. Alice disliked publicity, but was involved with the Free Kindergarten from its inception. She also provided an office in St John Street for the supply of comforts in the form of socks and tobacco for the fighting men at the front during World War I. Alice died in Melbourne aged 62 on 7 Nov 1918 but was buried at the Carr Villa Cemetery in Launceston. Her husband Robert died on 28 Jul 1924 aged 87.
