Henry James Scott was born on 13 Jan 1848, a son of Daniel Scott, Fifeshire, Scotland. In 1873 he married Isabella Armstrong of Ramsay, Isle of Man. Henry and Isabella arrived in South Australia with three children in 1880. They had three sons and two daughters. Henry was a vigneron and one time mayor of Brighton. He represented South Australia at several International Exhibitions throughout the world.
HJ Scott was the official agent for South Australia and Western Australia at the Tasmanian Exhibition in 1891-92. He exhibited a collection of wines as manager of the Adelaide Wine Company. He also displayed wines and preserved fruits under the banner of HJ Scott & Son of Bundarra Vineyard, Brighton, South Australia. His son Roy also attended the Exhibition, and his portrait is in the Family Album. Henry died aged 71 on 31 Jan 1919.
