Edith Gertrude Sampson was born on 17 Apr 1877, the second child of Richard Sampson (c.1847-1917) and his wife Caroline Elizabeth Pollard (1849-1945). Richard was a partner in the drapery business of McKay, Sampson and McKinlay. Born and raised in Launceston, Edith never married and died aged 69 on 8 Oct 1946. She was buried at Carr Villa Section C3 No. 370 with her mother who had died on 11 May 1945 aged 95.
