David Joseph Roche was born about 1869 in Cahir County, Tipperary, Ireland. He came to Tasmania about 1882 with senior members of the Catholic Church. He was a member of the Launceston Young Men's Catholic Society and Minstrel Troupe and for 45 years was a member of the Church of Apostles Choir. In Sep 1892 he took part in a Monster Concert in aid of the Launceston City Band at the Academy of Music. He was involved with the Independent Order of Oddfellows, the Hibernian Society, St Vincent de Paul Society, St Joseph's Band and contributed to Irish National concerts held over many years. He also sang with the Launceston Opera Company.
David was a turner and had a workshop next door to his home at 106 York Street, Launceston. He married Elizabeth Jane (Lizzie) O'Meara on 14 Nov 1904 at the Church of Apostles. Lizzie was the second daughter of Michael and Bridget O'Meara. He died at his residence aged 59 on 18 May 1928. Elizabeth died aged 63 on 10 Apr 1934 and was buried with David at the Carr Villa Cemetery in Section A3 No. 135.
