Mary Price was born in Launceston on 18 Feb 1876, the eighth child of Robert Henry Price JP (1836-1901) and his wife Mary Bushby (1838-1936). She was adept at needlework and won a special prize at the Tasmanian Exhibition in 1891-92 for a patchwork quilt. This is now on display in the nursery at 'Clarendon House', Nile, Tasmania. It appears that Mary was a sickly child and she died of phthisis (tuberculosis) on 18 Sep 1893 at the age of 17 years.
