Harry Pousty was born at Purewell, Christchurch, Hampshire, England, on 6 May 1872. His parents were William Pousty (1837-1897), an artist and photographer, and his wife Caroline Hodges Ward (1834-1895). William and Caroline, their five surviving children and William's brother Frank Pousty migrated to Australia on the Iberia, arriving in Port Phillip in December 1883 and then travelling on to Tasmania.
Harry was an electrician with the Launceston City Council and helped maintain Launceston's street lights. On 8 Nov 1898 Harry married Ada Florence Tyson. Their son Harry, known as Tom, was tragically drowned in the Cataract Gorge on 5 Dec 1920 aged 21 years. Their daughter Thelma, who was born in 1903, married Richard Kilby in 1922. Harry senior died 27 Dec 1945 aged 73 years. He is buried at Carr Villa Cemetery in the Anglican section C 424 next to his wife Ada who died aged 70 on 19 Feb 1943. His brother William also is pictured in the Family Album.
