George Shirley Pennefather was born in Launceston on 28 Sep 1864, the eldest son of Edward Going Pennefather and his wife Frances Harrison of 'Danbury Park'. He married Marian Constance Valentine on 11 Apr 1893 at St George's Church, Invermay. Marian was the eldest daughter of William Henry and Constance Valentine who are also in the Family Album, and granddaughter of Dr William Valentine of Campbell Town.
George and Marian had three daughters and one son between 1894 and 1902. George was a good cricketer, a batsman and off spin bowler, who represented Tasmania in 1889-90 and 1896-97 and played for Northern Tasmania for 25 years. He also umpired the game. He was a prominent member of the Launceston Cricket Club.
George was employed as an accountant and manager with the Commercial Bank, as a manager of Bloch and Co., Devonport, and as a clerk. Marian died aged 63 on 3 Dec 1934. George re-married about two years later, to Miss Gladys Willett. He died in Launceston on 16 Oct 1945 aged 81 years. His sisters Alice Pennefather and Isabel Mackay are also pictured in the Family Album.
