Colin Neil Ockelton was born in Calcutta, West Bengal, India, on 25 Oct 1857. His father, Thomas Phillip Ockelton from Yorkshire, was probably in the British Army in India. His mother was Emma Duhan. In Jul 1880 Colin applied for a teaching position in Tasmania. By the mid 1890s Colin was the principal of the Collegiate Institute in Cameron Street, Launceston. His private residence was at 58 Elizabeth Street. By 1900 he ran a private school in Waratah on the West Coast of Tasmania. Later he had a private school in Burnie, but by 1903 he was a clerk there. He remained in Burnie for a couple of years before moving to Victoria. In 1931, Colin, by then an insurance agent, was living at 266 Swan Street, Richmond, Victoria. He died aged 74 in 1931.
