Andrew Walmer Moran, of AW Moran and Co., 14 Queen’s Walk, Melbourne, a medal and embossing presses company, was born at sea on 23 July 1853. He migrated to Australia and married Susannah Dixon, daughter of Frances Burdett Dixon, in Queensland in 1878. Their first child Lilian Alice Walmer, was born in Queensland in 1879. Their other children were born in Victoria: Elizabeth Ivy Walmer, 1881; Andrew Walmer, 1883, Emma Frances Burdett, 1885; Frank Leslie Walmer, 1887-1933 and Lois Ray Walmer, 1889.
Andrew Moran set up his medal presses at the Tasmanian Exhibition in 1891-92. He produced medallions and other items, winning a first award for the collective exhibit. Andrew moved to Lyall Bay, Wellington, New Zealand with some members of his family in the early 1900s. He died in 1933 in Wellington.
