Margaret McMahon was born in Launceston on 23 Apr 1867, the fifth of nine children born to John McMahon and Catherine Daly (1837-1897). Margaret was a soprano in the Exhibition Choir in 1891-92 as was her sister Mary Laredo. Her sister Annie McMahon was an alto in the Choir.
