Mary Flora McKinnon, known by her second name Flora, was born in Launceston on 1 Jan 1845. She was the second youngest child of Allan McKinnon (c.1795-1877), farmer of 'Dalness', and Jessie McLean (c.1803-1892) who married on 23 Jul 1833. Flora had seven brothers and sisters: John Lachlan, born 1834; Allan McLean, 1836; Sibella, 1837; Hannah, 1839; Donald, 1841, Flora Ann, born 1842 and died 1844, and Colin, 1847. Flora most likely lived with her mother until Jessie McKinnon's death at 'Dalness' on 7 Apr 1892, in her 90th year.

At the age of 49 Flora married 52-year-old Adam Douglas Von Stieglitz on 5 Dec 1894 in her home at Perth. Adam died less than five years later in Oct 1899. Flora died aged 66 on 11 Dec 1911 and is buried at St Andrew's Presbyterian Cemetery, Evandale.
