Mrs Maria Anderson Maltman was born in Launceston on 26 July 1857, a daughter of James Boag I and his wife Janet Swan. Her parents migrated to Tasmania from Paisley, Scotland, in 1853. Maria Boag married publican William Maltman on 24 May 1878 at her father's residence. Their three children were born in Launceston: William Bole, 3 Oct 1879, died 21 Oct 1879; Janet Swan, 2 Oct 1880 and Elizabeth Bole, 6 May 1882. William died on 14 Feb 1897. It appears that Maria also worked in hotels as her occupation was listed as 'used to keep an hotel' when she was admitted to the New Norfolk Invalid and Mental Asylum on 8 Sep 1903 when she was 46 years old. Maria died at the Asylum 11 years later on 1 Oct 1914.
Her husband and one daughter and brother James Boag II and his family are also in the Launceston Family Album.
