Cyril Lakeland Maddox was born on 29 Jun 1875 to Dr William Gordon Maddox (1844-1916) and his wife Maria Grace Schultze (c.1849-1889). He was educated at the Launceston High School from 1884. He fought in the Boer War as a private in the Second Imperial Bushmen Contingent that departed from Tasmania in 1901. Cyril died aged 49 in Pretoria, South Africa, on 17 Mar 1924.
