Edith Wanda Lowenstein was born in Hawthorn, Victoria, in 1884, a daughter of Alexander Gustavus Lowenstein, an accountant, and Anna Jane Noble who were married in Victoria in 1881. Edith had five younger siblings all born in Melbourne: Florence Emma, 1886; Alexander, 1888; William Ernest, 1890; Horace Roy, 1891 and Frances Vera, 1893. Edith's mother's sisters, Agnes and Edith Noble, are also pictured in the Family Album. According to the Electoral Rolls, Edith was later living in Melbourne; she last appears on the 1954 Roll.

This portrait originally had T McLeod written underneath it, which was crossed out. She may be connected to Ms McLeod who is pictured in the Family Album.
