Margaret Elizabeth Hopkins, known as Maggie, was the youngest of seven children born to Emanuel Hopkins, draper, and Agnes Johnstone. She was born at St Georges Square, Launceston, on 25 Jun 1874. Maggie exhibited two crayon drawings in the Tasmanian Exhibition in 1891-92 and was an alto in the Choir. Her sister Edie was a soprano and is also pictured in the Family Album.
Maggie married Edward Tannoch McPhee, a civil servant, on 9 Mar 1896 at Launceston. They had two children, both born in Hobart: a son Alan on 17 Sep 1897 and a daughter Athole on 4 Oct 1899. Edward was a foundation member of the Commonwealth Bureau of Census and Statistics. He was cremated at Cornelian Bay on 11 Feb 1952. It appears that Maggie moved to Queensland to live with her daughter, as she died there on 11 Feb 1959. She was buried in the Lutwyche Cemetery, Kedron, Brisbane.
