William James Hogg was born on 7 Apr 1871, the second of eight children of the highly respected school teacher Thomas Hogg (1845-1890) and Mary Ann Huxtable (1842-1895) who were married at Evandale on 25 Feb 1869. William was born on 7 Apr 1871 at 'Belmont', Evandale. He was christened at St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Evandale on 25 Mar 1874. The family moved to Launceston about 1873 where Thomas established the Collegiate Institute, which trained young men in commercial studies. Thomas died suddenly on 13 Jul 1890 aged 45.
William was a very successful member of the Tamar rowing Club and Secretary of the Club in 1893.
He married Annie Mortimer (Pearl) Barling in Casino on 24 July 1908. The couple had two children: Joan, born in Lismore in 1909 and Richard (Dick) born in Narrandera in 1916. At this time William was the Manager of the Union Bank, Casino. Annie died in Sydney on 9 May 1950 and William in Chatswood on 26 April 1953.
William's younger brother Thomas and his future sister-in-law Ethel Barnard are also pictured in the Family Album.
William's wife was previously (erroneously) said to be Millicent Curry.
