Eila Mary and Winifred Amy Gunn were two of the three surviving daughters of Thomas Gunn (1844-1910) and his wife Mary Morris (1846-1926). Thomas, with his brother John, was a founding partner of the building firm J & T Gunn. They lived in York St, but also had a 'weekender' built by Thomas at Rosevears called 'Strathlynn'; its house and garden are still there and the land is now a vineyard. The two girls attended Methodist Ladies College (MLC), Eila being enrolled in the early years of the College.
Eila Mary was born on 6 Aug 1880 and married bank clerk Richard Daniel Room of 'Mayfield', Invermay, on 16 Nov 1907. They had two sons, Thomas, 1908-1994 and Donald, 1918-2004, both of whom became leaders in the business community. They were orchardists for many years at Deviot, West Tamar. Eila died on 12 Mar 1967. She was buried with her husband at Carr Villa Section C9 No. 18. Richard had died on 23 May 1952.
Winifred Amy was born on 29 Aug 1887 and married Albert Bertram on 22 Apr 1916 at Westbury and lived on King Island for some time. They had two sons, Thomas Henry, 1923-2003 and Richard Morris, 1927-1988 and a daughter Barbara. Winifred was one of the early female car drivers. Winifred died on 29 Jan 1969 aged 82.
