Arthur Green was born in Launceston on 30 Jul 1842, the third son of Richard Green (1808-1878) and his wife Hannah Jackson (1810-1904) who were married in Launceston in 1835. Arthur was appointed acting secretary of the Launceston Gas Company in Nov 1870 and its secretary a year later. After his father's death in Sep 1878, Arthur became manager and secretary. He was made one of the public officers in Jul 1880. Arthur was a member of the Northern Tasmanian Camera Club. He wrote poetry under the pseudonym 'Moss Rose'.
On 15 Apr 1876 Arthur married Florence Weedon, second daughter and fifth child of Charles James Weedon and his wife Charlotte Hardwicke. Arthur and Florence had four sons and one daughter between 1877 and 1886. They lived at 'Windarra', 22 High Street, Launceston, now the Windmill Hill Tourist Lodge. Arthur died aged 81 on 24 Jul 1924 and Florence died on 29 Apr 1938. They are buried in the family plot at Carr Villa in the Anglican Section B1. See The Examiner 29 Apr 2006, p. 30.
