Thomas Gibson was born on 8 Feb 1857, the fourth son and sixth child of Thomas Gibson (1821-1907), farmer, and his wife Mary Andromeda Stewart (1823-1901) of 'Esk Vale', Epping Forest. Thomas senior was a son of David Gibson, a convict on the Calcutta, and farmer of 'Pleasant Banks', Evandale. Mary was born on board the Andromeda en route to Australia. Her parents were George and Margaret Stewart, of 'Stewarton', Epping.
Legend has it that Thomas junior was wild and went to the mainland. There is no record amongst the family of his marrying or where he lived and died.
