John Frost was born in England about 1837 and came out to Tasmania as a young man. He married Amelia Annie Sage in Launceston on 14 Jan 1867. John was a draper and for some years was a partner in the firm Frost & Orpwood, Charles Street, Launceston. He was an amateur musician and sang bass in the Exhibition Choir. He was also a noted rifle shot. John and Amelia's nine children were born from 1868 to 1882: Francis Frederick, William John, Lilian Mary, Charles, Emma Louisa, Arthur John, Albert Edgar, Sydney and George Stanley. Four of them are pictured in the Launceston Family Album: Frank (and his wife Bessie), Lilian, Emma and Albert. John died in his 75th year on 23 Sep 1912 at his residence 51 High Street and was buried at the Cypress Street Cemetery. Amelia died on 22 July 1933 aged 90 and is buried at Carr Villa with four of her children: Charles, Albert, Lilian and Emma. See The Examiner 25 Mar 2006, p.30.
