Ethel Mary Ferguson was born in Launceston on 21 Sep 1874, the second daughter of John Charles Ferguson (1842-1914), ironmonger, and his wife Beatrice Hamilton (1846-1919). Ethel exhibited three crayon drawings at the Tasmanian Exhibition of 1891-92. She travelled to England, perhaps with with her sister Beatrice, and married Arthur Stephen Herbert in London on 26 Jun 1907. They had two sons: John Ferguson (Jack), born on 17 Mar 1908, and Arthur James (Jim), born on 24 Oct 1918. Jack had two daughters; he died in 1982. Jim was awarded a CBE and died in 2005. He had one son and three daughters. Ethel was still living in London when her sister Beatrice died in Launceston in 1951. See The Examiner 6 Jan 2007, page 26.
