Alberta Laura Fenton was born at Forth in 1855, the youngest daughter of James Fenton (1820-1901) and his wife Helena Mary Ann Monds (1831-1892) who were married on 27 May 1846. Her siblings were: Helen, born 1847; Charles, 1849; and Flora, 1851. Alberta attended Miss Bastow's School in Launceston in 1861-62. She returned to Forth with her family until 1879 when they came back to Launceston. After the death of her mother on 10 Aug 1892 Alberta refused to live in the family home of 'Lenna', 41 Brisbane Street, Launceston. She and her father lived in Melbourne briefly and at various rented properties in Launceston.

Alberta married William Hirstwood at the Registrar's Office, Launceston, on 22 Dec 1900. William was from Manchester, England. Alberta died on 12 Jun 1907 at Windsor, Victoria, and was buried in the Kew Cemetery. Her father is also pictured in the Family Album.
