Mrs Ada Jane Eberhard was born on 22 Jul 1868 in Ballarat, the fourth daughter of William Henry Abbott (1839-1922), brewer, and Mary Elizabeth Searle (1841-1936), cordial manufacturer. Ada married Carl Theodore Eberhard on 30 Mar 1891 in her parents' home in Paterson Street, Launceston. Carl was a chemist in a pharmacy on the corner of Charles and York streets, Launceston. Ada and Carl had two daughters. Clarice (Rene) was born on 19 Nov 1892 and Mary (Molly) was born on 11 May 1894.
Ada was educated at Broadland House and retained an interest in the school until her death. She was on the board of trustees and president of the Ladies' Committee. She was one of the founders and first treasurer of the Queen Victoria Hospital, vice-president and committee member of the Girl Guides Association and a staunch supporter of St Aidan's Church. During the First World War she worked to raise funds for the Red Cross. She died aged 64 on 22 Dec 1932 and was buried at the Carr Villa Cemetery in Section E2 No. 30. Carl died aged 76 in Jul 1938 and was buried next to Ada. Her younger siblings Henry, Ethel and Thomas Abbott are also pictured in the Launceston Family Album.
