Henry Chrystal was born in Melbourne in 1865, a son of William Chrystal and Mary Ann Marshall (c.1851-1922). Others in the family were William, Thomas, James and Jessie.
At the time of the Tasmanian Exhibition Henry may have been living with his brother James and family in Wellington Road, Launceston. Henry played second violin in the Exhibition Orchestra in 1891-92.
Henry Chrystal, a woodworker and woodcarver, married Ellen (Nellie) McGuire in 1898 in Melbourne. Their three children were born in Carlton: Evan Henry, 1899, Dorothy Mary Grace, 1902 and Harold Roy, 1904. Henry died in Victoria in 1948.
