Mrs Jane Florence Crossley, nee Gould, was born in 1857 in Bothenhampton, Dorset, England, the third daughter of Thomas Gould (c.1814-1879) and his second wife Jane Luckhurst (c.1825-1864) who were married in Launceston in 1854. Mrs Crossley's mother Jane died in childbirth in Launceston in 1864 aged 39. Thomas was a baker and confectioner.
On 10 Aug 1881 Jane Gould married Arthur Wallis Crossley, a son of E W and Harriette Crossley of Tarraville, South Australia. The wedding took place at the residence of the bride's sister in Launceston and was conducted by the Rev. Charles Price. Their children were: Arthur, 1882-1883; Ruby, 1884-1885; Vera, 30 Mar 1886; Ivy, 27 Dec 1887; Ada, 6 Mar 1890-1960 and Marion, 12 May 1894.
In Aug 1906 the Crossleys, who lived at 'Helvetia', Mowbray, celebrated their silver wedding at the Masonic Hall. Jane died on 4 Feb 1918 in Struan Hospital, Launceston, aged 59. Arthur Crossley died on 12 Jul 1920, aged 65. They were buried together at Carr Villa in Section B1 No. 215.
Jane's half-sister Elizabeth Steer and members of her family are in the Album. Members of the families of two of her other half-sisters, Mary Ann Joscelyne and Sarah Gladman, are also present, as are children of her father's third marriage, Alice, Charles and Grace Gould.
