Cornwall Cowling was born in Launceston on 4 Feb 1884, the second of five children of John Johns Cowling (1856-1934) and Elizabeth Oats Wearne. He married Mabel Annie Giffard in 1910 in Victoria. They had ten children: Alan Giffard, Maxwell John, Jean, Alison, Maree, Gwyn, Jack, Bill, Clare and Ivan. Between 1909 and 1936 they lived in North Melbourne, Camberwell and Echuca. Cornwall was an engine fitter; his son Alan was also a railway employee and Maxwell became a carpenter. Max died aged 35 in 1947. Cornwall died aged 68 at Seymour, Victoria, in 1952. His parents and sister Josephine are also pictured in the Family Album.
