William Holmes Coulter was born in Launceston on 6 Nov 1871, the third son of James Coulter (1832-1907), superintendent of police, and his wife Christina Dean who had been married in 1867. He worked as a clerk at the Launceston Post Office. Sadly William contracted consumption (tuberculosis). A change of climate in Bendigo seemed to improve his health, but nothing could be done to prevent his death which occurred at his parents' home on 27 Sep 1892 in his 21st year. He was buried at the Cypress Street Cemetery. William had been a member of the Court Sherwood Lodge. His brother Alexander is also pictured in the Family Album. See The Examiner 3 Feb 2007, page 40.
