Arthur Handasyde Champion was born in Kent Town, South Australia, on 14 Nov 1885. He was the eldest child of Rev. Arthur Hammerton Champion (1859-) and Mary Celia Duncan (1861-1925) who were married in 1884. Rev. Champion was Headmaster of the Launceston Church Grammar School from 1886-1895 and then moved to the King's School Parramatta where Arthur received his education.
Arthur was a captain in the First World War. He was wounded at the Gallipoli landing on 25 Apr 1915 and later in France on 28 Apr 1916. He was repatriated to Australia on 9 Sep 1916. Arthur married Sylvia Mary Crace in 1917 at Woollahra, NSW. In 1949 Arthur was living at 'Pine Lodge', Moss Vale, NSW, while Sylvia was at Kings Road. Sylvia was born in 1890 at Queanbeyan and died in 1957 at Bowral. Arthur died in 1961.
