James Harold Samuel Brumby, known as Harold, was born on 23 Jun 1869, the second of ten children born to James Peter Ainslie Brumby (1839-1919) and his wife Mary Martha Girle (1847-1911) of 'Oakleigh', Cressy. Harold was appointed as a clerk at the Launceston Post Office in Jan 1891. After some years working for the Post and Telegraph Department he retired and acquired 'Longwood', a farming and pastoral property at Herrick. He was a candidate for Bass in the House of Representatives, but was unsuccessful.
On 21 Jun 1894, Harold married Marion Kent at the Holy Trinity Church, Launceston. Their three children were: Geddes, born in 1895; Roswell, born 1896, died 1904 and Geoffrey, born in 1906. Harold died on 10 Jan 1941 at his residence 'Longwood' and was cremated at Carr Villa. Marion died on 10 Sep 1945. Harold's brother Edward Ainslie Brumby is also pictured in the Album.
