Basil Frederick Knight Brown was born in New Zealand on 3 Jan 1878, a son of storekeeper Edward Knight Brown (1854-1929) and Lucy Jane Ford (1853-1939) who were married in Stanley, Tasmania, on 4 Feb 1875. Basil had two younger sisters Ida and Elizabeth and a brother Norman. The family moved to Launceston in 1889 where Basil was enrolled at the Launceston High School. They moved again to Hillgrove, New South Wales. Basil graduated from Hawkesbury Agricultural College in 1897 and became an orchardist at Mount Irvine, NSW. He married Julia Holden on 26 Jan 1913. They had three children: Herbert, born 1914; Patricia, 1916 and Noel, 1917. Noel was an RAAF bomber pilot and died in an air crash in 1943. Basil died at Wentworth Falls on 12 Sep 1968 with the surname Knight-Brown. For more information see the Fords of Ford Green by Peter J Ford.
