Mabel Mary Batty, known as May, was the daughter of George William Batty and his wife Emma Clarke. She was born in Rothwell, Yorkshire, England, in 1871. The family came to Tasmania before 1884. Mabel was a soprano in the Tasmanian Exhibition Choir in 1891-92. She married William Beaufoy on 14 Nov 1894 at the residence of her parents, 'Stonycroft', Cataract Hill, Launceston. May and Samuel's children were born in Launceston, Olive in 1895 and Charles in 1902. Mabel's father, brother and future husband William Beaufoy also appear in the Album. The family seems to have left Launceston by 1903. See The Examiner 20 Jan 2007, page 30.
