This is possibly Joseph Barrett who was born on 18 Feb 1856, the eldest of five children of Abraham Barrett (1831-1899), teacher, alderman and mayor of Launceston and his wife Ann Eliza Martin (1838-1875). The Barrett family moved to Dunedin, New Zealand, in Mar 1873 where Abraham was a schoolteacher. Joseph was almost 19 when his mother died on 11 Jan 1875 during a visit to Launceston. He possibly stayed in Launceston then as he married Florence Jones in that city on 12 Jan 1879. They did not have had any children, but a niece of Florence's, Maria Jones, went by the name of Maria Barrett. Joseph was a commission agent and the manager of the Tasmanian Farmers Co-operative in Wynyard. He died in the Launceston General Hospital on 14 Sep 1913 aged 58. Florence died aged 81 on 7 Apr 1937 and was buried with her husband at Carr Villa in B3 76. The death notice for Joseph in The Examiner asked that the newspapers in Dunedin, New Zealand, copy the notice. Joseph's younger brother Abraham Henry Barrett is also pictured in the Family Album.
