Frances Estelle Barnard was born on 7 Mar 1870, the daughter of Thomas Barnard (1835-1891) and his wife Elizabeth Coppock Gaunt (1839-1903) of 'The Grange', Windermere. Frances Barnard, aged 24, married Henry Edgell junior, an accountant aged 26, on 5 April 1894 at St Matthias Church, Windermere, in the presence of Henry's brother Robert Gordon Edgell, his sister Mabel Ellen Mamie Edgell, known as Nellie, Clara A Barnard and E B Lawrence. Frances and Henry's four children were born in Launceston: Henry Colin in 1895, Bessie in 1896 and twins Millicent and Donald in 1897. Henry and Frances took up farming at 'Woodlands', Surprise Bay, King Island about 1903.
Frances' husband Henry died suddenly from appendicitis on 1 Jul 1909, soon after he had met his children who had arrived home from school in Launceston. Her mother, Elizabeth, and aunt, Sarah Barnard, are also in the Family Album. See The Examiner 31 Mar 2007, page 37.
