Jessie Elizabeth Barclay, known as Bessie, was born on 5 Apr 1881, the third daughter of James Francis Oliver Barclay (1841-1926) and his wife Sarah Elizabeth Sherwin (1844-1921). On 15 Nov 1915 Bessie married Sydney Griffith, of Victoria, who was a bank manager. After the wedding in Launceston the couple left on the Loongana en route to Wellington, NSW. Sydney had been transferred to the Union Bank there. They moved many times, to Gympie, Temora, Sydney and other places. Bessie died in 1975.
