John Edwin Paterson was born about 1875, the eldest child of Captain John Paterson and his wife Emma Boston. He came to Australia from England with his parents in 1876. His sister Emma Martha was born in Sydney in that year. The family moved to George Town, Tasmania, the following year. John Edwin was a seaman. He died at George Town aged 39 on 2 Feb 1914 and was buried in the Church of England Cemetery in Cypress Street, Launceston.
