Francis Herbert Neale was born in Carlton, Victoria, in 1878. He was a son of the Rev. Francis Neale (1840-1906) and his wife Caroline Matilda Eades. Rev. Neale was the minister of the Paterson Street Methodist Church, Launceston, from 1889 until 1892. Francis junior became a chemist and had moved to Perth, Western Australia, by 1901. He shared a house with his brother Alfred who was a bank clerk. He married Berenice in Perth. His older sisters Adelaide and Laura are also pictured in the Family Album.
