Ella McKinlay was born in Launceston on 29 Apr 1878, the only daughter of Gilbert Tennent McKinlay (1851-1937), a draper, and his first wife Anne Colville who died in 1904. Ella was educated at Broadland House School, Launceston. She married Matthew Gilmour, a chartered accountant, and lived in Glasgow, Scotland. Their only daughter, Jean, was born in Glasgow on 24 Jan 1914. Jean, who was named for Ella's paternal grandmother, had recently completed her education in Edinburgh when her mother died. Ella, who had been in ill health for some time, passed away in Glasgow on 25 Feb 1932. Her parents and brother George are also in the Launceston Family Album.
